Waterproof rating against salt water performance

These are two different specifications and confusing them is the most expensive mistake a beach buyer makes. A rating describes what keeps water out of the housing. Performance in salt describes whether the electronics can find anything once it is there.

A published 10 foot rating means the housing keeps water out to 10 feet, and says nothing about whether a single-frequency machine can separate a target from conductive salt water.

The honest weakness: 10 feet of waterproofing is not a beach machine
