Privacy Policy

Last updated

This policy covers detectorcalc.com. The short version: the site has no accounts and no logins, it does not sell personal information, and the only data you actively give us is an email address if you choose to type one into a form.

What we collect

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It records pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, referring site, and interactions such as clicking an outbound product link. Google processes this data on our behalf.
  • Email addresses you submit. If you ask for a kit list by email, the address and the page that captured it go to a Google Forms spreadsheet. If you use the contact or partner form, your name, email and message are emailed to us through FormSubmit.
  • Calculator inputs. Every calculator runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type are not transmitted to us or stored anywhere.

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish one visit from another. Amazon sets its own cookies when you follow a product link, which is how a purchase is attributed to this site; that happens on Amazon's domain under Amazon's own privacy policy, not ours. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics specifically using Google's browser add-on. Blocking them does not stop the site working.

Third parties that receive data

  • Google (Analytics, Fonts, Forms)
  • Amazon (affiliate tracking when you follow a product link, and product images served from Amazon's image hosts)
  • FormSubmit (contact and partner form delivery)
  • Cloudflare (hosting and content delivery, which involves processing your IP address to serve the page)

Each has its own privacy policy governing what it does with that data.

How we use it

Analytics data is used to understand which pages are useful and which are not, so we know what to write and what to fix. Email addresses are used to send the thing you asked for and occasional related updates about detecting gear. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the processors listed above.

Your choices and rights

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, or to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To exercise any of these rights, or to have your email address removed, use the contact page and we will act on it.

Retention and security

Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for removal. Analytics data is retained according to Google's configured retention period. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we take reasonable care we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Questions go to the contact page. See also the affiliate disclosure and terms of service.
